I think you mean the right padding for the secondary drop down menu. (the empty space to the right of the menus)
Look in your stylysheet for this and change the bottom line as commented:

#subnav li li a, #subnav li li a:link, #subnav li li a:visited {
    -moz-border-bottom-colors: none;
    -moz-border-image: none;
    -moz-border-left-colors: none;
    -moz-border-right-colors: none;
    -moz-border-top-colors: none;
    background-color: #333333;
    border-color: #666666;
    border-right: 1px solid #666666;
    border-style: solid;
    border-width: 0 1px 1px;
    color: #FFFFFF;
    font-size: 13px;
    padding: 5px 10px;
    position: relative;
    text-transform: none;
/* this is the Genesis secondary navigation menu width, set it smaller to something like 90px */
   width: 138px;
}

For the sidebar menu, I use this in the Add HTML/CSS Inserts section (to style anything in Atahualpa if there's no section for it):

Add HTML/CSS Inserts:
div.widget ul li {
/* this is the grey bar bullet on Atahualpa border-left: 3px solid #C9CACC; */
    display: block;
    margin: 2px 0 2px 0;
    padding: 0 0 0 4px;
}

Jenn, I can't see your website, but my guess is that 1300 pixels is too wide. Especially with a slideshow.

Many ways to check what it really is, once you find the width of the slideshow container, resize all of your pictures to be exactly that width (also height if you can), the re-upload them to the slideshow and remove the old ones from it.

If you really do have a 1300 pixel wide slideshow that's getting cutoff on the right on different browsers, it's likely the screen isn't wide enough to display the whole picture, in that case you'd see the browser window cutting off the entire right side of the WP website.

Hi Laura, since it's your first time building a WP website, this is easier:

It will specifically for the theme Twenty Eleven, you should be able to turn off the text in Admin->Appearance->Header->Display Text and click Save Changes.

You may have been working on the wrong style sheet if it made no difference, or you may be putting the code #header h1 { display:none } too high in your stylesheet and it may be getting overridden by a later declaration.

BTW. Your website looks good. To answer your question on your Bio page, you have too much space between the header image and the blog post because of this attribute setting in your stylesheet:
style.css line 686

#main {
    clear: both;
    padding: 1.625em 0 0;

You can change your padding line to:
padding: 0.1em 0 0;

Hi. I'm working on a wordpress website for the first time. It's the Twenty Eleven theme and I'd like to hide the Wordpress page title and subtitle that appears over my banner image. I've tried the code provided above, but I must be putting it in the wrong place in the style.css file. Can you tell me where to put it? Also, is there a way to move the banner closer to the top of the page once the header is gone?

Thanks!

Hi there, I am having problems with the header pics. They have the recommended width (I think it is 1300 pixel), but on different browsers and on different screen sizes, the pictures (I have them rotating) are cut off on the right side.
What can I do to make them fit to every browser, please?

Tissy, if your Atahualpa header has the extra space above and below the header image, it can be eliminated this way:
Admin->Appearance->Atahualpa Theme Options->Style & edit HEADER AREA->%bar1 %image %bar2 %pages

Remove the %bar1 and the %bar2 and the header image will sit closer to the content and higher on the page, leaving more content "above the fold".

The header style line in Atahualpa should look like this: %image %pages if you have a page menu, or if you have a blog post menu %image %cats

If it's a space issue inside the content container, then this won't fix it, it would just help a bit.
